
Andrew Seto (b. Edinburgh, 1966) is a British visual artist whose studio practice is based in London. After graduating in Law from the University of Birmingham, he studied at St Martin's School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art where he won the Coldstream Prize and a scholarship to the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. Seto's practice researches intersecting themes of bathos, materiality, the queer poetic gaze and an imperfect sublime predominantly through drawing and painting using ambivalent gesture and personal allegory while celebrating other influences such as queer literature and art historical painting languages. His work has been exhibited in the UK, Germany, France, United States, China and placed in public and private art collections. Seto has also been selected for juried exhibitions and awards such as the John Moores Painting Prize, the Jerwood Drawing Prize, the Marmite Prize for Painting, and the Whitechapel Open. Recently in 2022 he made a public installation in a 15th century heritage site at the invitation of French cultural organisation L'art dans les chapelles. In 2023 Studio1.1 London curated his solo show Desire Lines. Forthcoming solo project in Paris. Studio visits are by appointment.
